This page will guide you through the process of upgrading
OurWord from a version prior to 1.8.
Very Important: This documentation assumes that your
cluster has already been set up, with Scripture data initialized and a repository
established at LanguageDepot.org. If these are not true, please contact us
for assistance. (And sorry, but at this point I am only able to support
the Seed Company, SIL and their partner's translation projects.)
Step 1 - Uninstall the old version of OurWord
- Log into Windows as an Administrator.
- Through the Start menu, open the Control Panel.
- Open Add-Remove Software (Windows XP ) or
Uninstall a Program (Windows Vista or Windows 7)
- Find OurWord on the list, select it, and uninstall it
- In the same way, uninstall Tortoise HG if you wish to
upgrade it to the latest version.
Step 2 - Uninstall TortoiseHg
In the same manner, uninstall TortoiseHg via the Control Panel.
Also uninstall "Tortoise Overlays" if this isn't handled automatically through the TortoiseHg
uninstallation. You will need to restart your computer for these changes to take effect.
(OurWord's new installer handles these items that TortoiseHg was doing in the past.)
Step 3 - Install the latest OurWord
class="pNormal">You can now follow the First-Time Installation instructions on the
New Installation page. Then use your Back button to
return to these instructions.
Important: Run the installation from within the log in that
will actually be using the software. E.g., Log in as a Limited User if that is the way
the translator will be working. Previously you would install OurWord in an Adminstrator log in,
and it would then be available for all users; now, OurWord must be installed in every log in
for which it will be used. So if you install it in an Administrator log-in, then log in as a
Limited User, you'll not see OurWord.
Step 4 - Launch OurWord
You can now lauch OurWord. There should be a desktop icon. Unfortunately the
new installer does not put anything in the Start Menu, and thank Mr Gates that's going to be a
challenging thing to fix, so I haven't done it yet. So use the desktop icon for the time-being.
Step 5 - Users
You'll see on the toolbar that the user is "Observer." The Observer is able
to view the translation, but cannot make any changes.
If you click on Observer, you'll get a dropdown with "Add New User..." as a
choice. Click on that to being up a dialog by which you can add yourself as an administrator.
You may wish to refer to the documentation on Users for details; but in this dialog you need to
enter your name, a meaningful password, and check the Administrator radio button. After clicking
on OK, your name will now appear in the Toolbar, and you will have authority to do work.
(You will eventually want to create Users for all of the members of your team.)
Step 6 - Send / Receive
You should now do the Send/Receive command (under the Tools menu) to verify
that everything is set up correctly for collaboration, and to send your new User to the
data repository.
Step 7 - Upgrade any other computers
You are now ready to go to the other computers in your team. You repeat most of
the steps outlined above:
- Uninstall the old version of OurWord
- Uninstall Tortoise Hg
- Install the new version of OurWord
- Launch
- Setup the User. Note, this is a bit tricky in that you'll need to
create an Administrator account on this machine, in order to create the new user's account, in
order to be able to enter the new user's username and password for the Send/Receive operation.
You can just re-create your own Administrator account (that is, an account with the same name)
on each computer you need to upgrade, and allow the Send/Receive operation to merge them together.
