PLEASE NOTE! We are making good progress to version 2.0, which we hope to
release in the coming weeks. If you can wait on serious work until then, it would probably be best.
If not, please at least let us know that you are using a pre-2.0 release, so that we can
work with you to upgrade.
Upgrading from prior versions
If you are currently running OurWord 1.5 or earlier, please don't install from this page. Refer
to the Download and Setup Page for instructions, depending on which version
your are running.
First-Time Installation
OurWord requires Microsoft Windows running DotNet version 3.5
(the full, not the compact version). If you
regularly have Windows Update in operation, then your computer should be fine; otherwise you
may need to manually launch Windows Update and make sure that DotNet has been updated. If you
receive strange error messages upon lauching OurWord, this is probably the culprit.
To install OurWord for the first time, download and run the setup programm by
clicking here on:
SetupOurWord.exe.
Thereafter, use the Check For Updates command to install subsequent releases.
When you click on the above link, your browser will present a dialog similar to the one
below, giving you the choice to Save or Open the file, depending on your browser settings. Either option
is fine; if you chose to Save it, then you will want to navigate to it in your Windows Explorer and double
click to run the setup program.
Windows will now complain that the publisher could not be verified.
I have elected to not spend the $200+ per year for a digital signature. So instead, you will see this
warning dialog, and must go ahead and click on Run to proceed.
OurWord's setup program now launches, and presents the following dialog by which you
can finally start the installation:
Most of the files needed are still on the Internet. The setup program will now begin
downloading these files, displaying the progress indicator below to let you know how it is doing.
The initial installation requires about 10 MB of downloaded files. The good news is that
the Check For Updates command (under the Tools menu) will only download the files that have actually changed from this
initial installation, such that considerably less download is typically required. Normlay less than 20% of the initial
installation changes for an update.
Installation on additional computers
If you have a less-than-ideal Internet connection, an alternate means of
installation is to first download these two files:
SetupOurWord.exe
OurWordSetupFiles.zip (approx 10MB)
Place both files on a USB stick, and plug it into the target computer.
When you then double-click on SetupOurWord.exe, if it finds the zip file in the same folder,
it will obtain the setup files it needs from there, rather than downloading from the Internet.
