OurWord provides a means where you can see how a verse was
translator in other languages; this may help in seeing how other translators
approached a translation problem.
OurWord was designed around the concept that the translator uses a
Source or Front text in order to create a translation in the vernacular. And while
seeing only the Source is frequently sufficient, there are times when it is helpful
to be able to view other translations as well. This is especially the case in a cluster
situation where a translator may wish to view how a specific issue has been addressed
in other neighboring languages.
OurWord permits you to set up "Reference Translations" where you
indicate other translations that you wish to see. Thereafter, if you hover or click
over a verse number, you will see that verse in those other translations.
The contents of the window always show the vernacular translation
in the reference translations. If you are in a view which shows the Back Translation,
and click on a verse number there, then you will also see the corresponding back
translation of the reference language:
The feature is similar to
Translator Notes,
showing up as a balloon which you can dismiss by clicking on the 'x'; or by which you can make into
a stand-alone window by clicking on the small window icon beside the 'x' on the upper-right.
Reference Translations are set up in the Configuration dialog. There, all of
the translations in the cluster are shown, and you can place a check beside the ones that you
wish to see.
class="pNormal">Alternatively you can use the Create button to set up a new Reference
Translation from scratch. You might do this for a national language translation, which does not
already exist in your cluster. Just import books in the same manner that you do when setting
up the Front translation.
To Do: OurWord does not currently provide a means of ordering these
Reference Translations, so you do not have a means of specifying which one comes first
in the popup window.
