Because OurWord now works in a highly collaborative environment, it is
necessary to restrict access of various people to areas of the software. For example,
while it is wonderful for a prayer partner in the United States to be able to
see the translation, you certainly do not want him to have the ability to actually
edit the translation! This document describe's OurWord's functionality for defining
user permissions.
Built-In Users
OurWord has four built-in user types:
Observer -
Allowed to view the draft and the back translation,
but not allowed to make changes; not even allowed to create notes. When a person
downloads a project from the Internet he is given Observer status by default.
Translator -
Allowed to edit the draft and the back translation; allowed to edit notes; but not given access to
most settings.
Project Advisor -
Has full access to OurWord. Our assumption is that the Advisor is the one who
sets up other users.
Consultant -
Does not edit the draft, but has access to all of the views, and can make and
respond to notes.
These user types will rarely work for individuals in a
translation projects, which is why we define each person as their own User,
allowing each to have customized settings.
How it works
The user's name appears in the Title Bar, where there is a dropdown
for changing to a different user. If you have the correct permission, you can create
a new user from an item in that dropdown.
The process of creating a new user involves (1) setting up their name
and password, and (2) setting up their permissions. You can clone their permissions from
another existing user, or from one of the built-in types.
Users and permissions are managed from within the Configuration
dialog.
If a project is not set up for collaboration, then users are
irrelevant for that project, and the user interface for users is not activated.
